Remembering

We Remember
I think this photo is one of my most visceral. Though the reflection is my parents they can easily be the parents of anyone. We are all touched by the pain of war and I think this photo really catches those deep feelings - much like how we feel as we approach the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Before the Tears
Who could have ever imagined that this beautiful skyline would change so dramatically and in those horrifying moments our hearts would be forever changed. When I took this picture I thought what an interesting point of view - Lady Liberty standing guard over the city. On September 11, 2001 I knew I would never see this picture without feeling the pain of that day - hence the name, Before the Tears.

Sand in the Hands of God

I was walking down the Tybee Island Beach in November of 2006. The beach - the oceans always provide a wealth of opportunities for photographs so I always try to have a camera with me. That morning in November the water and the sands left these interesting and intriguing designs in the sand....the beautiful handiwork of Divine design - hence the name - Sand in the Hands of God.

Mam-ma's Pink Perfection

Professor Sargent

Miss Mattie's Azalea's

The first winter after I bought my Mam-ma's house there was one lone bloom on the Pink Perfection camellia bush. Mam-ma's good friend and neighbor (God rest both their souls) called me at work one day and said - "I took that bloom because I know Mam-ma would have wanted me to have it." Indeed, she would have. And every year since that camellia has been filled with beautiful and perfectly pink flowers.

Hurricane Hannah

I drove down to St. Augustine last September to preach at Pilgrim Church (United Churches of Christ). I arrived at St. Augustine Beach just in time to catch up with the remnants of Hurricane Hannah. It was raining, windy and the surf was pounding but I wanted to try to get some good photos of the power of the storm. This first photo is my favorite though they each tell their own story about the sea that day.
