Remembering

We Remember

I think this photo is one of my most visceral. Though the reflection is my parents they can easily be the parents of anyone. We are all touched by the pain of war and I think this photo really catches those deep feelings - much like how we feel as we approach the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Before the Tears

Who could have ever imagined that this beautiful skyline would change so dramatically and in those horrifying moments our hearts would be forever changed. When I took this picture I thought what an interesting point of view - Lady Liberty standing guard over the city. On September 11, 2001 I knew I would never see this picture without feeling the pain of that day - hence the name, Before the Tears.

Wings of Love

This photo represents two gifts from God. The first one was me finally meeting the love of my life and second was the gift of this exquisite sunrise at Matanzas Inlet, Florida. As the sun rose in the eastern sky the clouds began their shaping and forming until "At Last" they became the wings of love. Across the breeze I imagine I could hear the sultry tones of Etta James singing, At last, my love has come along. My lonely days are over and life is like a song. May you feel the warmth and grace of love when you look at this photo.

My goal for my photography from the very beginning was so that when people saw the pictures they could literally see, feel and experience the moment that picture was taken. I hope that when someone sees a sunrise or sunset they can feel the peace and solitude of that moment - that they can smell the salty air and hear the waves and the water. I want my photos to touch people in some way - even if it is simply that they look and wonder what I was thinking when I took that picture. I love taking the photographs and seeing the outcome. And I love it when people "get it" when they are looking at one of my photos.
